Nickolay Mladenov is a Bulgarian diplomat and former politician who served as the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process (UNSCO, 2014–2021). In that role he was the principal UN interlocutor in ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Gaza-based armed factions (Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad), coordinating with the Quartet (UN, US, EU, Russia) and Egypt as the primary Gaza shuttle-diplomacy broker.
